How Payments Work on WasteLinks: Secure Card Payments and Automatic Carrier Payouts, Powered by Stripe

Every payment on WasteLinks runs on Stripe, the payment infrastructure trusted by millions of businesses worldwide. Here is exactly what that means for the people paying for waste collections and the carriers being paid to do them.

When money changes hands for a waste collection, two people need to trust the process at the same time. The customer wants to know their card details are safe and their payment is protected. The carrier wants to know the money will actually arrive, without chasing invoices or waiting on cheques. WasteLinks solves both sides of that in the same way: every payment on the platform runs on Stripe.

WasteLinks partners with Stripe for secure payments and financial services

Stripe is the payment infrastructure behind millions of businesses, from single tradespeople to companies like Amazon and Deliveroo. It is a regulated payment institution, certified to the highest level of card security that exists, known as PCI DSS Level 1. When you see the screen above during carrier onboarding, that is Stripe itself confirming the relationship: WasteLinks is built on Stripe for payments and financial services.

What this means if you are booking a collection

Your card details never touch WasteLinks. When you pay for a booking, you are taken to a secure Stripe checkout page, the same kind used by some of the largest platforms on the internet. Your card number goes directly to Stripe, is encrypted on their systems, and all WasteLinks ever sees is confirmation that the payment succeeded. We could not read your card number even if we wanted to, and that is exactly how it should be.

Your payment is also protected in the practical sense. If a collection needs to be refunded, the refund is handled by WasteLinks through Stripe and lands back on the card you paid with. If something goes wrong with a job, our dispute process sits on top of the same system, so there is always a clear record of what was paid, when, and for what.

What this means if you are a carrier

You get your own Stripe account, connected to WasteLinks during onboarding. Setting it up takes a few minutes: Stripe verifies your identity and your bank account through its own secure process, the same regulated checks every UK financial institution performs. WasteLinks never sees your banking credentials either. Once connected, you are in control of your own account, with your own Stripe dashboard showing every payout.

From then on, getting paid is automatic. When a customer pays for a booking, your share is routed to your Stripe account and paid out to your bank on a rolling schedule, typically within a few working days. There are no invoices to raise, no payment chasing, and no card processing fees for you to worry about: WasteLinks covers all card processing costs. What you see on the booking is what lands in your account, minus only the platform commission you priced in when you set your rates.

And for carriers who want their money even faster, there is instant payout. From your Payments page you can move your available balance to your bank account within around thirty minutes, any day of the week including weekends. Standard payouts always stay free; instant payouts carry a 1% fee charged by Stripe for the speed, and the choice is entirely yours, payout by payout. Instant availability does depend on your bank or debit card supporting it, and Stripe applies sensible daily limits while an account builds its history, so if an instant withdrawal is not available at a particular moment nothing is lost: your balance simply arrives free of charge on the standard schedule instead.

Why we built it this way

We could have handled payments ourselves and many platforms try. We chose not to, deliberately. Holding people's card details and moving money between parties is a regulated, security-critical job that should be done by specialists whose entire business is doing exactly that. Stripe processes hundreds of billions of pounds a year and is audited to standards no small platform could match alone. Building on that foundation means a one-man carrier in Sutton Coldfield gets the same payment security as a listed company, from their first job onwards.

It also keeps the incentives honest. Because payment, booking and paperwork all live in one system, every job has a complete trail: who booked it, who paid, who collected, what was transferred, and what the waste transfer note says. That is good for trust, good for disputes on the rare occasion they happen, and increasingly good for compliance as digital waste tracking becomes mandatory.

The short version

Customers pay through Stripe's secure checkout and their card details never touch our servers. Carriers connect their own Stripe account once and then get paid automatically for every completed job. Refunds and disputes are handled inside the platform with a full payment trail. And nobody on either side pays card processing fees, because WasteLinks covers them.

If you have a question about payments we have not answered here, ask us at support@wastelinks.co.uk and a person will reply.

Frequently asked questions

Does WasteLinks store my card details?

No. Card payments happen on Stripe's secure checkout pages, and your card number is encrypted by Stripe. WasteLinks only receives confirmation that a payment succeeded, never the card details themselves.

How do carriers get paid?

Each carrier connects their own Stripe account during onboarding. When a customer pays for a booking, the carrier's share is routed to that account automatically and paid out to their bank on a rolling schedule, typically within a few working days, with no invoicing required.

Who pays the card processing fees?

WasteLinks does. Carriers receive their price minus only the platform commission, and customers pay exactly the price shown at booking. There are no separate card fees on either side.

What happens if I need a refund?

Refunds are handled by WasteLinks through Stripe and are returned to the card used for the original payment. Every booking keeps a complete payment record, which also supports our dispute process if a job is ever contested.

Can carriers get paid instantly?

Yes. Optional instant payouts move a carrier's available balance to their bank within around thirty minutes, any day including weekends, for a 1% Stripe fee, straight from the Payments page. Availability depends on the carrier's bank or debit card supporting instant payouts, and Stripe applies daily limits while an account builds history. Whenever instant is not available, the balance still pays out free of charge on the standard schedule, which typically arrives within a few working days.

Is Stripe safe?

Stripe is a regulated payment institution certified to PCI DSS Level 1, the highest level of card industry security certification, and processes payments for millions of businesses worldwide. It is among the most trusted payment providers on the internet.
